Top 3 baby items that your baby does not need

If you are expecting or looking to buy baby shower gifts, save yourself the extra $$$, you can forgo these items.

1.) Diaper Genie: I received this from my baby shower. I probably used this 3xs max. The rest of the time, I just toss his diapers wherever I can find a trash bin (i.e. kitchen, bathroom, ect.). We take out our trash regularly so it does not stink. This is the one I have: Playtex Diaper Genie Complete Assembled Diaper Pail with Odor Lock Technology & 1 Full Size Refill, White (1 pail and 1 refill per unit)

2.) Crib: This is controversial and personal so don’t hate. I admit, I co-sleep with my son. Been doing it since he was born up until this very day. He loves the comfort of sleeping next to me or his father. Because of this, we never used the crib. We tried the crib, but my little guy just cries his heart out. We’ll transition him in time (he has his nursery/room to himself when he is ready for it). This is the one I have: Stork Craft Portofino 4-in-1 Fixed Side Convertible Crib and Changer, Espresso

3.) Changing pad/changing table: Again another gift from my baby shower. I thought I was going to be using this but, honestly I have been changing my little guy wherever I was (i.e. on the floor, on the bed, on the table, on the chair, you get the picture). The changing pad was in his nursery (on the 2nd floor), which I hardly was ever in his nursery so I never used it. This is the one I have: Summer Infant Contoured Changing Pad, White

Again, every family is different so these items might be your top must-haves, but these just didn’t work for my us.

Please share what item(s) didn’t work for you and your little one—

  1. We had a Boppy for breastfeeding … it was NOT as useful or comfortable as everyone made it out to be. We used it some, but nowhere near as much as I would have thought for either baby.
